Donald Lee Kuszmaul, Sr. age 81 of Champion Township, died Saturday evening, January 30, 2016, at Community Skilled Health Care Centre in Warren. He was born January 6, 1935 in Warren, the son of the late Donald Laverne and Marian Eliza Moore Kuszmaul. Don was a 1955 graduate of Howland High School, where he was on the basketball and baseball teams and then served in the U.S. Army, stationed at Ft. Greely, Alaska. He worked for 35 years in the millwright and carpenter trades retiring in 1997. He had been a member of Millwright local No. 30, Cleveland local 1871, Baltimore, MD local 1548, New London Groton, Conn. local 1302 and Warren Carpenters local 1438. Don had attended Champion Christian Church and was a member of Mahoning masonic Lodge No. 394 F&AM in Niles. He was active with the Boy Scouts of America with several troops when his three sons were in scouting and all three of his sons received their Eagle Scout award. He loved spending time with his wife, sons and grandsons. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, vegetable and flower gardening and woodworking. He took pride in growing his tulips and maintaining his yard. Don is survived by his wife of nearly 53 years, Doris Mamula Kuszmaul, whom he married May 25, 1963; three sons, Donald L. (Stephanie) Jr. of Martinsville, Ind., Dean L. (Kimberly) of Salem and David A. of Champion; three grandsons, Joshua, Jared and Kevin Kuszmaul and two brothers, Gene (Dorothy) Kuszmaul of Niles and Kenneth (Judy) Kuszmaul of Spartansburg, SC. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, February 5, 2016 at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and also one hour prior to the service Friday. Pastor Norman Schinkel will officiate. Burial will be at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna. Memorial contributions may be made to the Champion Fire Dept.
