CHAMPION TWP.- Frederick "Fred" Reynolds Hurst, 88, formerly of Dade City, Florida, passed away on Friday morning, May 20, 2016 at St. Joseph Healthcare Center in Warren, Ohio. He was born on December 11, 1927 in Salem, West Virginia, son of the late Francis Marion and Opal Isabelle (Ross) Hurst. Fred worked as a Railroad Engineer at Copperweld until his retirement in 1986. Upon retiring, Fred and his wife moved south to Dade City, Florida where they lived in the Blue Jay Retirement Village for over 30 years. Fred was a groundskeeper at the village and enjoyed mowing and lawn care. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Dade City where he served as an Elder, and after returning to Ohio he began attending Cortland Church of the Nazarene. Fred had a passion for traveling and will be remembered for the enjoyment he found in trains. Fred is survived by his wife of 33 years, Ellen (Bechtel) Hurst whom he married on March 17, 1983 at Fowler United Methodist Church; daughter, Janie (Joe) Donda of Champion where Fred and Ellen made their home; son, Bret (Karen) Hurst of Warren; step-daughters, Annie (Bob) Gammon and Cindy (Jim) Cook, both of Oklahoma City; granddaughter, Stacey Donda and her children, Alexis and Katie Applegate; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Gene Hurst, and his sisters, Bessie Nicholson and Aleta Fulton. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel, 180 Garfield Drive NE, Warren, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM and also on Thursday, May 26, 2016 from 11:00AM to 12:00PM. Services will follow the hour of calling on Thursday , beginning at 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at West Mecca Cemetery.
