Gene L. Wamer Sr., 89, formerly of Lake Milton, passed away Monday, May 21, 2018 at the Humility House in Austintown, Ohio. Gene was born on September 27, 1928 in Kerrville, Texas, to Jesse and Louise Elebrock Wamer. Gene was a World War II veteran and served his country in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in 1948. Gene worked at Rockwell International for over 25 years. He retired from Steel City Corporation in 1995 as a maintenance foreman. Gene was very handy. He owned and operated PC's CB Shop. He was a ham radio operator, his call letters were WB8JHM. He played the guitar in many bands and he enjoyed golfing. He leaves to cherish his memory three children: Patricia (Roarke) Anderson of Youngstown, Randall (Deedra) Wamer of Newton Falls, and Quentin (Debra) Wamer of Byesville; brothers, Charles (Betty) of Streetsboro, Rev. Ronald (Karen) Wamer of Florida, and Jesse (Mandy) Wamer of Salem; 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.  In addition to his parents, Gene was also preceded in death by wife Donna (Lanterman) Wamer whom he married June 22, 1950 and who died April 12, 1999, his son Gene Wamer Jr., and his sisters, Maedell Hill, Betty Dolin and his brother Robert Wamer Sr. The family would like to offer their gratitude to Humility House who diligently and compassionately assisted Gene during the past several months. Friends will be received at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel on Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 10 AM- 12 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 12 PM at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Eckis Cemetery. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Portage County Dog Warden or Humility House in Gene's name.
