George Oliver Ray, 77 of Howland passed away Saturday afternoon, June 11, 2016, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital. He was born July 31, 1938 in Rochester, Pennsylvania the son of the late George and Rose Devore Ray. George was a 1956 graduate of New Brighton, Pa. high school and lived in the Rochester area until 1969. After serving an apprenticeship as a pipefitter and plumber in Monaca, Pa., he moved to the Warren area in 1969 to work at Packard Electric Corp., where he worked as a pipefitter for 30 years, retiring in 1999. George was an avid NASCAR fan for more than 30 years and often traveled with friends to see races at the Talladega and Bristol racetracks. He was a loyal Penn State football fan and in 2001 he co-founded the Mathews Little Mustangs foorball program. George also loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting in McKean county, Pa., as well as perch fishing with his buddies on Lake Erie. George was an active member of Howland United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Men's Fellowship, held various offices over the years, and participated in most church activities George is survived by his wife, Janey L. Pringle Ray, whom he married August 3, 1985 ; his children, Jeffrey (Bernice) Flood, Jennifer (Dan) Wearsch and Jonathan Flood; four grandchildren, Michael Flood and Meredith, Loren and Peter Wearsch; one great granddaughter, Hallie Flood; one sister, Janet (Harry) Miller; one niece, Sharon (Brian) Becker and two nephews, Kenneth and Scott (Cara) Miller. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren and also from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the 11 a.m. service Friday at the Howland United Methodist Church. Rev. Matt Darren will officiate. Burial will be at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna. Memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund at the Howland United Methodist Church, 730 Howland Wilson Rd. NE, Warren, OH 44484.
