John T. Genaro, 69, of Howland, passed away peacefully with his family surrounding him on Thursday, June 23rd, 2016 at St. Joseph Hospital. Born on July 30th, 1946 in Champion, Ohio, he was the son of Armand and Jean (D'Orazio) Genaro. During the Vietnam War, John served as an instructor to radio operators and was awarded the National Defense Service and Marksman medal. He attended Youngstown State University and graduated from the University of North Carolina with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work. He oversaw the Age Line program for United Way in Charlotte and co-owned Diabetic Medical Supply for 16 years and The Care Team for two years, before retiring. John was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ for 45 years and attended the location at Liberty Township. He was ordained a Minister in May of 1987 and an Evangelist in October of 2004. John was known for his love of life and food. He had a wonderful story telling ability and loved talking with people. His favorite thing to do was to share his contagious laugh. His hobbies included studying the scriptures, following politics, smoking meat, watching classic movies, re-loading bullets and target shooting. His love for Jesus Christ led him to numerous countries throughout the world to preach the gospel. As former Chairman of the India Committee, he made several trips and oversaw the outreach efforts of the Church there. He also traveled to Guatemala, Malaysia, Mexico, Philippines and Nepal, as well as serving missions within the United States. He was also a member of the International Missionary Operating Committee of his Church which oversaw all the missionary efforts worldwide. Left to celebrate John's life is his loving wife of 32 years, Susan Koeth Genaro, whom he married on July 14th, 1984. He is also survived by his daughters Elizabeth and Kathryn, his siblings Barbara (Mike) Nuzzi of Howland, Jim Genaro of Bologna, Italy, and sister-in law Deneen Genaro of Howland; his niece Deanna (Jim) McKay of Independence, MO, and nephews Nicholas and Daniel Genaro and his beloved dog Taz. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his brother Dan. A celebration of his life will be held at 7 pm on Tuesday, June 28th at The Church of Jesus Christ, 1900 Keefer Rd. Girard, Ohio 44420. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Humanitarian Foundation Fund, P.O. Box 956 Mount Laurel, NJ 08054, with designation to the India work.
