Lawrence Sidney Rowthorn, 91 of McDonald, died Monday evening, May 28, 2018, at Hospice House in Youngstown. He was born June 1, 1926 in Youngstown the son of the late Percy George and Anne Moore Rowthorn. He lived in McDonald for many years in the home he built in the 1950's. Lawrence served as a Seaman First Class in the Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II, serving aboard several naval ships. He also served on supply / landing crafts and was stationed in the Philippines and Japan. After returning from the Navy, he worked as a boiler operator at U.S. Steel in McDonald, retiring in 1981. After retirement, Lawrence and his wife, Mildred lived in Union City, Pa. for 20 years in a home that he also built. He enjoyed carpentry, traveling, crossword puzzles and Jumbo word search puzzles. Lawrence is survived by two daughters, Linda A. (Glen) Brooks of Linesville, Pa. and Debra J. (William) Whitmarsh of McDonald; two sons, David L. (Linda Standish) Rowthorn of Pepper Pike and Larry R. Rowthorn of Phoenix; eight grandchildren, Natalie Rowthorn, Jill (Mark) Malik, Dora (Michael) Rowthorn, Tracy (Shawn) Lansing, Gordon, Larry, Joel and Christopher Rowthorn; nine great grandchildren, Sidney, Josie, Tori, Justin, Jessica, Joseph, Hazel, Piper and Gordon; one great great granddaughter, Korra Desmet and his siblings, John (Ilene) Rowthorn of Kentucky, Percy (Delores) Rowthorn of Florida, Annie (Hank) Shaner of Aurtintown and Bill (Margie) Shufflebottom of New York. His wife of nearly 49 years, Mildred Agnes Malcomson Rowthorn, whom he married December 3, 1947 preceded him in death Nov. 5, 1996. One son, Gary Lee Rowthorn died in 2009 and one grandson, Michael Urbas and a sister, Mary Hurdley also preceded in death. A Celebration of Life gathering, to honor Lawrence's life, will be held starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at his daughter, Debra's home, at 2921 Youngstown Ave. in Mc Donald, Ohio 44437.
