Robert W. Koby, age 88, of Austintown, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2017, surrounded by his family in Florida. Born December 30, 1928 in Youngstown; he was the son of Elmer and Mildred (Heinaman) Koby. He had spent his entire life in the Youngstown/Austintown area. Upon graduation from Fitch High School, he served in the Korean War with the U.S. Army, where he operated a Sherman tank with the 3rd Armored Division Company A; he was wounded and honorably discharged. He met his wife, the former Helen Yuhas, at the Fort Indian Town Gap Army Base near Minersville, Pennsylvania; they were married on January 24, 1953 and enjoyed 60 years of marriage before her death on September 13, 2013. He was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church. He was an Overhead Crain operator for Wean United for 35 years, and had formerly worked for U.S. Steel. He was a devoted and generous family man, who enjoyed spending time with his family. He was known for meticulously caring for his Ford Thunderbird as well as other cars he owned; he enjoyed attending car shows with his family. To carry on his legacy is his son Robert (Maria) Koby, Jr.; grandchildren: Marissa (Austin) Poe and Robert "RJ" Koby III; great-grandchildren: Kai and Camden Poe. Besides his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by his brother Kenneth. Friends will be received at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, on Thursday from 4-7PM, where services will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 10:30AM with Fr. Richard Lambert officiating. Burial will take place at the Home Cemetery.
