John M. Welch, 80, of Warren, passed away June 6, 2013 at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Warren. John was born in Mill Creek, West Virginia, August 16, 1932, son of Cecil and Stella (Snyder) Welch who preceded him in death. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in the Korean War and retired from Republic Steel, where he worked as a Diesel Mechanic. John was a member of the McKinley Community Church in Warren, and loved his "granddogs", watching NASCAR, and his favorite driver Dale Earnhart, Sr. and working on old cars. He enjoyed camping and traveling with his wife and children. After he retired, he would drive the Amish on trips and enjoyed sharing his stories about those trips. He was always ready to go on a road trip anytime, anywhere. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Thelma (Phares); three children, Cathy (David) Hughes of Cortland, John A. Welch of Warren and Deborah K. (John MacDonald) Welch of Howland; two grandsons, Matthew and Devin Hughes and one sister, Marie Crickard of Elkins, WV. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert (Bob) Welch. The family will receive friends Monday from 12 – 2PM at the Lane Family Funeral Home, Roberts-Clark Chapel, 180 Garfield Dr. Warren OH, 44483. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM. Interment will be held at the Meadowbrook Memorial Park. Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the McKinley Community Church 1524 Elm Rd. Warren, OH 44483
